Dipping into Nature

It’s a Saturday morning and the churchyard of St. Aidan’s on the bank of the Eastern Cleddau is hosting a new kind of event.
Inspired by a reading from John 21 we braved the Pembrokeshire mizzle and enjoyed fish finger rolls and coffees by an open fire.
With tummies full, and carrying our nets and collection trays we walked the short distance to Llawhaden bridge to make use of our wellies. Rummaging around the pebbles in the shallows we collected our mini beasts and, back at church, examined the catch.
From age 3 to 80+ it was fascinating to find so much life and, reassuringly, the predominance of the various river fly larvae indicated that this little stretch of the Cleddau is in good health.
Fellowship, food and the fascination of exploring nature - what’s not to like?
We extend our thanks to Peter, the local Water Bailiff for guidance on dipping and equipment, to Emma from the West Wales Rivers Trust for educational and creative resources; also to Nicci and Elaine from our sister churches for their support, as always.
