Art on the Faith Trail 2025

The Art on the Faith Trail exhibition is back in the Cathedral again and regaining its position as an established part of the summer season of cultural events in a county that boasts of its creativity. Faith Tourism Officer Caroline Evans reports.

With displays of work from fourteen professional artists placed in the eastern end of the cathedral, the exhibition opened on Monday 18 August and runs until Friday, 26 September; there is no entry charge.

The success of the Trail is a tribute to the hard work of the late Canon Sarah Geach as Diocese Tourism Officer who, with Raul Speek and a core of marvellous artists and committed churches, got the event started in 2012 and established itself as an annual exhibition, based on displays in local parish churches as the Pilgrim Trail that culminates at the cathedral. You can watch Sarah and contributing artists visiting the churches involved that year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOYC5qh3D7s.

The Covid outbreak led to obvious problems and hiatus; since then the exhibition has been restricted to the cathedral site. For those new to the Trail, there is no overall theme – the artists select pieces of their work that they feel respond to the setting, the church or the cathedral. The “Trail” refers to the paths used by the travellers on pilgrimage in the early Christian world making their way to their ultimate destination, St Davids Cathedral.

Organised by Austen Pinkerton and Sally Green, the other artists are Arthur Brooker, Deb Chapman, Mark Crockett, Owen Hart, Jill Jones, Kate Kelly, Sue Kelsal, Dorothy Morris, Katy Patterson, Barbara Price, Anastasia Sevcova, Dawn Steward and Anna Waters, There may be some additional events added. Enquiries to Sally Green on 07513 874727.
