Retreat guide and spiritual director Emma Timms shares 21 spiritual practices that will both feed your soul and fit with the life you are actually living.

If you’re not a fan of the word ‘habit’, don’t worry—it doesn’t really matter what you call it. Whether you think of it as a routine, a practice or a spiritual rhythm, the key is finding practical ways to be faithful and grow closer to God in your everyday life. Keep reading to discover how to start habit stacking, reflect on biblical truths about faithfulness in small things, and take small steps to build hope and trust in God.

Timms emphasises that cultivating faith habits can lead to deeper peace, communion and rest, ultimately helping readers know God more intimately. It encourages readers to recognise and connect with God's already active presence within them.

She communicates the importance of viewing faith habits not as religious ritual that leave us empty but authentic ways to pursue growth in relationship with God. It is full of purpose as we seek to know, love and obey God, intentionally seeking to practise our faith in a way that demonstrates love for God and others.

Godly habits such as daily prayer, regular Bible reading, worship, tithing, encouraging others and fasting can transform your life. They are essential for spiritual growth and living a life that reflects Christ. They don’t happen overnight, but through consistent effort and reliance on God’s grace, they can transform your life.

Start small, stay faithful and watch how God works in and through you to bring about His glory and purpose. Remember, the habits you form today shape the person you’re becoming tomorrow. Choose to cultivate habits that lead you closer to Him.

A wonderful resource to do with your small group, or by yourself. I read it with a friend, and we agreed it makes a great tool to read alongside someone who is new to faith or considering Christianity.

This book has nothing to do with judgement or checking boxes, but has everything to do with giving you the chance to reflect on your daily choices in an effort to find a few easy starts that can slowly form a habit that draws you closer to knowing God.
