Open to Alpha
As part of our ongoing commitment to Mission and supporting individuals exploring faith and encouraging new believers in their spiritual journey, Alpha continues to be a key resource within our ministry to children, youth, and families. Michelle Lloyd describes its benefits in two church communities in Bro Aman.
The course provides a welcoming and relational environment in which participants can learn about our Trinitarian God, who Jesus is, and gain a clearer understanding of the person and work of the Holy Spirit. In addition to this, Alpha naturally fosters friendships and offers participants a taste of what healthy Christian community and church life can be like.
Following the success of last year’s Alpha courses held in partnership with Rev Ali at All Saints and Rev Lindy at Tumble, I have now launched two new Alpha groups in Llandybie and Pontiets.
Alpha in Llandybie
The Llandybie Alpha sessions run by Revd Nicola Davies and I make it accessible for participants who may have other commitments later in the day. The group dynamic is warm and open, and meaningful conversations are beginning to develop. Participants are engaging positively with the course material and are showing curiosity about faith and Christian belief.

Alpha in Pontiets
The Pontiets Alpha, run by me and Revd Lindy Morgan, benefits from the homely environment of the vicarage, creating a comfortable and non‑intimidating space for conversation. The presence of volunteers enables excellent pastoral support and helps uphold a relaxed and relational atmosphere. The two mums and two volunteers attending have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to explore faith in a setting that feels safe, friendly, and down‑to‑earth.
Across all locations - past and present - the Alpha course continues to play a significant role in:
- Supporting those exploring Christianity
- Nurturing new believers
- Building confidence in understanding the Trinity, Jesus’ identity, and the Holy Spirit
- Encouraging authentic friendships
- Modelling welcoming, Christ‑centred community life
The consistent positive engagement at both Llandybie and Pontiets shows a clear appetite for discussion‑based, relational approaches to faith exploration. Alpha remains a vital part of our ministry strategy and an excellent tool for encouraging discipleship and belonging within our wider church family.
The launch of Alpha in Llandybie and Pontiets marks another encouraging step in supporting spiritual growth within our communities and our focus on the Open to God Mission. With dedicated volunteers, supportive clergy partnerships and engaged participants, both groups are off to a promising start. Building on last year’s fruitful courses, these new groups continue to demonstrate that Alpha is an effective and Spirit‑led resource for drawing people closer to God and to one another.
