Messy Church – it works!

A brand-new Messy Church initiative at Llandybie Church is already proving a hit with families from across the local area, following its official launch in September.

The idea grew naturally out of a busy and successful summer of Park Pop‑Ups, where Rev. Nicola Davies and Children, Youth & Families Worker, Michelle Lloyd, spent time meeting parents, grandparents, and children in relaxed outdoor settings.

Coupled with regular school assemblies across Llandybie, Saron, Tycroes and Bro Banw schools, the team built strong connections with families long before Messy Church began. Rev Ali Reeves, the Area Dean of the Bro Amman LMA, has also been involved with the park outreach and some of the Messy Church sessions and supports us as a team with regular meetings and prayer.

“It felt like the right next step,” Michelle says. “By the time September came, families already knew us - and we knew them. That made the launch feel exciting, not daunting.”

Since opening its doors, the monthly Messy Church has seen steady growth, welcoming up to 17 children plus their parents and caregivers by December. Families attending represent all four local primary schools, creating a genuinely cross‑community space.

One of the most encouraging developments has been the involvement of parents themselves. Several local mums have stepped up to help with craft preparation, as well as supporting children during the creative activity sessions.

“The sense of teamwork has been wonderful,” Michelle added. “It’s become a shared space - not just something the church ‘puts on,’ but something families are actively shaping.”

A special mention is also given to Gill, a dedicated member of Llandybie Church, who oversees the refreshments and food each month. Her warm hospitality has not gone unnoticed.

“Gill is an angel in disguise,” Michelle said. “We couldn’t do this without her.”

With momentum building and strong relationships forming, Messy Church is set to continue growing as a joyful, welcoming, and faith‑filled gathering for families across the area.
