Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Lent

Lent is the six-week period leading up to Easter. It is a particular time to confess sin and to seek personal and collective renewal (a ‘springtime of the spirit’). Lent has a special focus on Jesus’s journey to the cross and prepares the Church to celebrate his resurrection.

The unstoppable power of hope

The Head of Christian Aid Wales, Mari McNeill, looks ahead to this year’s Christian Aid Week, from May 11-17, marking its 80th anniversary.

At the end of World War Two, churches in Britain and Ireland came together to mobilise aid for refugees in Europe. For eight decades, we’ve been an expression of faith in the unstoppable power of hope to create a more just and peaceful world. We always say ‘we’, because Christian Aid is a movement of people and partners which many communities in Wales have been a part of since the very beginning, or thereabouts.

Last year alone, we worked with 260 partners to reach 4.5 million people via hundreds of projects, from savings and loans associations to farming co-operatives and climate disaster risk training to healthcare schemes.

Today, in Gaza and across the Middle East, our partners are delivering life-saving aid to civilians caught up in the conflict. In Sudan and South Sudan, our partners are responding to the needs of millions of people who are displaced and facing the threat of famine and death because of violent conflict.

As we consider the needs of our world in 2025 and reflect on our faith which so powerfully calls us to love our neighbour, we’d like to invite you as individuals, churches and communities in St Davids Diocese to reflect on the unstoppable power of hope and what it means for us today as we continue to give, act and pray. If your church would like to hold any special services or events, we’d love to hear from you to know how we can support: wales@christian-aid.org

Thank you for your continued support, and your faith in the unstoppable power of hope,
