Faith in service
PC Rachel John describes how joining the Police re-connected her with her strong faith heritage
Christ and Christianity have been a part of who I am from such a young age.
I was baptised as a young child and attended Sunday Schools. As I entered Secondary school, I spent many summers in Malvern attending Christian-run youth groups . These experiences laid a strong foundation for my faith and I always considered myself a Christian, even when there were times when I drifted from attending church regularly.
Despite my intermittent church attendance, my Christian beliefs remained a constant in my life. They guided my values and decisions, shaping who I am today.
Upon joining Dyfed-Powys police, I felt a pull to reconnect with my faith. I sought solace and guidance as I navigated being a Response Police Constable.
It was during this time that my fiancé suggested that we attend our local church, a place with deep family roots. It's where my grandfather was confirmed, my parents married, and where I was christened. Moreover, it's where my fiancé and father were baptised together.
Returning to my local church symbolised a recommitment to my Christian heritage and a desire to be more actively involved in my faith community. It has been a journey of rediscovery and strengthening my spiritual connection, reminding me of the importance of faith in both my personal and professional life.
As I move forward, my faith drives me, drawing strength and guidance from its principles and teachings.
Professionally, my faith serves as a moral compass, guiding me in my interactions with others and truly upholding the value of "love thy neighbour". I believe that upholding Christian values such as compassion, integrity, and justice is essential in my role as a Police Constable. My faith reminds me to treat every individual with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances.
In the face of challenges, I see my faith as a source of comfort and resilience, providing me with the inner strength to persevere through difficult times.
Looking to the future, I see my faith leading me towards a path of service and purpose. I aspire to make a positive impact in my community, not only through my work but also by embodying the values of kindness, empathy, and generosity that are central to my Christian beliefs. I envision myself continuing to grow spiritually, deepening my understanding of God's love and extending that love to those around me.
Ultimately, I trust that my faith will guide me through whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead, anchoring me in a sense of purpose and hope as I navigate life's journey.
