A safe pair of hands
Meet Meleri Cray, the new Safeguarding Trainer and Engagement Officer for St David’s Diocese
As part of the wider Safeguarding Team for the Church in Wales, I’m here to deliver Safeguarding training sessions. I am also available to offer guidance and support on a range of safeguarding matters, from Safe Recruitment to the completion of risk assessments .
The Christian faith is a very important part of life for me. I’m a chapel organist and was also a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. My employment background is varied. I was a police officer with Dyfed Powys Police for many years. I’ve also worked at an outreach centre with the Salvation Army.
After that, I began working for the Presbyterian Church in Wales on a project aimed at advising churches on their children, youth and family work. During my time in that role, I heard about Open the Book, a resource with Bible Society where Bible stories are shared with children during assembly time in a fun and interactive way - I ended up on secondment promoting this program before working for Bible Society leading on other aspects of their work in Wales.
I enjoy playing the piano and like going for walks with my two dogs! Welsh is my first language, so I am happy to chat with you in Welsh if you would prefer. My colleagues and I are here to support you and you can find all our contact details along with the Safeguarding Policy and various practice guidance documents on the Church in Wales website under Safeguarding
You can also find details of training sessions at Safeguarding Training - The Church in Wales.
