GSUS Live

The Christian charity Counties runs a free resource called GSUS Live. Jonathon Wright recommends it.

I imagine that many of us would like to find ways to support our local schools and, in particular, our secondary schools. We were fortunate to be able to run this resource at Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard over a week in September.

What is GSUS Live? It’s a suite of iPads which have the programme loaded into them (and nothing else!). They are set up in a classroom for a week, with pop-up screens to transform the classroom. Each session lasts 50-60 minutes and starts with an introduction led by a presenter. The children then choose to follow the story of one of three characters to explore a theme - fear, forgiveness or rejection. There is then a conclusion where the themes are brought together.

What is involved in running GSUS Live? First, a school that is willing to host it. You could invite your school to speak to Ysgol Bro Gwaun to find out more. Secondly, you need a team to set up, run and take down the programme. That means someone to co-ordinate volunteers, then really at least three people for each session, covering the whole school week.

The basic schedule is to do a set-up on the Friday evening beforehand, then a team training session on the resource. Each lasts about two hours. On the morning of each day, the core team meets for prayer about 8.30am then gets ready to meet the first group.

At the end of the day, those present pray for those they have met through the day. We prepared for the event with regular prayer. For context, we had a team of 10 local people from churches and chapels in Fishguard who mixed and matched according to what their schedule allowed, and we were supported by our local Counties representative, Janet Hawking, who kindly donated a week to make it happen.

How can I find out more or apply? It’s a good idea to check out the website (https://www.countiesuk.org/gsuslive) and you can email jonathonwright@cinw.org.uk to have a chat. If we can support you to get GSUS Live off the ground where you are, we will.
