A bumper crop bears fruit

Members of St. Teilo’s Church Brechfa came up with a novel solution to their glut of apples, as church warden Ian Phillips explains.

The crop of apples this year was phenomenal, and we weren’t sure of what to do with them until Winford Jones (church member) and I came up with the idea of making apple juice. So, with ladders, boxes and carrier bags we went about picking.

Some 60 kilos of apples went to The Apple Shed in Dinefwr Home Farm in Llandeilo where they produced the juice which was branded as St. Teilo Apple Juice. They were sold in the local community shop and within a matter of days some 70 bottles large and small were gone.

Furthermore, a quantity was sent to theCefnogi food bank in Ammanford where they distribute them to the needy.

Reports have come back that the juice is very tasty. Hopefully we will repeat the process next year.
