New grant helps fund compassionate care
Compassionate Cymru has launched a new small grant fund to support compassionate communities in Wales. Heather Ferguson, Head of Policy & Projects at Age Cymru, has the details.

Compassionate Cymru is a movement to encourage Wales to be a considerate and caring nation that comes together to support people living with ill health like cancer, and dealing with death, dying and bereavement. By developing compassionate communities, we can be there when people need it the most.
We know that this approach can make a huge difference, but local initiatives can struggle to get started so Compassionate Cymru has launched the new fund and are inviting applications from local communities for grants of up to £500.
The types of activities would be to encourage the development of more compassionate communities around living with ill health, death, dying, bereavement, whether this is in a workplace, care home or in the local community. Examples could be; a small workplace wanting to start a group to support those whose lives have been affected by cancer, or later life planning session for its staff, or an art project with people living in care homes who want to talk about end of life, or a tea and coffee morning to kick start a Death Cafe etc. The ideas will be led by what is needed in the local communities applying.
The grant programme, funded by Macmillan Cancer Care and administered by Age Cymru is quite flexible and can be used to fund one-off events or a programme of activities, online or offline.
Applicants do not need to be registered charities but they will need to have formal structures in place and a bank account. Joint applications between groups can also be considered.
The deadline for submitting applications is: Monday 7 April 2025
