Another church becomes a crime scene
Thieves have struck at another church in St Davids Diocese - the third incident of its kind in a month.
An attempt has been made to remove the lightning conductor at Ss Cewydd and Peter's Church in Steynton, near Milford Haven, with approximately three feet of it having been pulled from the clips attaching it to the side of the tower.
"Whoever attempted to remove the lightning conductor would have been very visible from the main road due to the location of the tower,," said a diocesan spokeswoman. "Incidents such as these are extremely frustrating, disappointing and costly for our Churches who work hard to maintain their buildings; they also cause damage to the fabric of the buildings which can lead to further issues. They could also potentially cause injury to those participating in attempted or actual theft/vandalism and to those who attend these sites with legitimate purposes."
The matter has been reported to the police, who will be patrolling the area. The Church was also a victim of lead theft at the beginning of the year.
It was recently reported that the Diocese has suffered incidents of vandalism and theft at the Former Tremoilet VC School, Pendine and St Mary’s Church, Llanfair-ar-y-bryn, near Llandovery.
"We would ask that our Church communities remain vigilant and that any future suspicious activity around diocesan buildings, or further information about any of the incidents mentioned here, are reported to the police on 101 or the Diocesan Office on 01267 236145," the spokeswoman said.
