The How and the Why of Christian Faith

Studying the readings I had been chosen to read while on retreat (Romans 10) opened my eyes to a few facts which would otherwise have escaped my notice. Apparently, Augustine, Luther and Wesley were also transformed by its message. Read on...

The scripture says “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” It goes on to say: ”But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent”?

We really should appreciate our clergy more! How else, without my vicars, past and present, would my faith have blossomed the way it has.

Having said that I can relate to the words “…unless they are sent.” I come from a large family, yet I am the only one truly obsessed by holy scripture. Why? I know why, but I would love to hear how and why other deeply religious people are drawn to such a deep faith, wouldn’t you?
