It was a packed week with inspiring input across a variety of topics including two days’ worth of enthusiastic teaching from the Leading Your Church Into Growth (LYCIG) team fronted by Revd Canon Robin Gamble. The spread of candidates was encouragingly broad across age, gender, background and church tradition, and there was a positive atmosphere to the week as everyone got on so well.
In addition to the LYCIG course there were four main teaching strands which candidates were filtered onto, depending on their ministry and stage of training: Preaching and Leading Worship (led by me), Pastoral (lead by Revd Susan Blagden), Children Family and Young People (led by Rev Dr Mark Griffiths), and Pioneer (led by Helen Shepherd). There were worship services in a variety of styles, including a Eucharist at which the Archbishop presided and preached, plenty of opportunity to build friendships new and existing, and three excellent meals a day provided by the catering staff.
Although it took many of us a while to recover, the week was a wonderful way to begin the coming year’s training. As the candidates now spend time on placement, please remember them in your prayers and give them plenty of encouragement if that placement is in your own parish!
