The new Rector of Aberystwyth is to be Revd Mones Farah, who will be appointed with the title of Rector Designate.
Mones is a native of Nazareth, who has spent much of his adult life in this country. He served his curacy in the parish of Aberystwyth under Stuart Bell, who he replaces, from 1988 to 1991. Then for seven years he was chaplain of St Davids University college Lampeter.
In 1998 he moved to Great Baddow in Essex, where he has served for sixteen years as Team Vicar with responsibility for Meadgate Church. His ministry there has seen vibrant growth in the congregation and its outreach to the community. It has also given him experience of working in a team with colleagues and a group of churches.
Mones and his wife Sally are looking forward to their return to the town, although existing commitments mean that they are not able to make the move until early May. In the meantime, he will be brushing up on his Welsh language skills!
