Fishguard Gift Weekend
Fri 27 July, 7.30 pmFree
There will be drama, music and history in St Mary’s Church, Fishguard on Friday 27th July. As part of a drive to improve access to the church and provide much needed toilet facilities the doors will be thrown open and all are welcome to come inside.
At this free event there will be a performance of a short play about the church that US and German cruise ship passengers have been enjoying over the last year. A cast of characters including Jemima Nichols, west country fishermen and a pompous Victorian vicar bring the history to life accompanied by period music.
The plans and drawings for the proposed easy access entrance and annex will also be on display. Visitors will be welcome to ask questions and give comments over a glass of wine and nibbles following the play.
Vicar of Fishguard, Rev Christopher Brown, said ‘This building has been part of Fishguard life for over 150 years and we want even more people to be able to enjoy it. The proposed ‘step free’ entrance, toilets and refreshment service area will mean that the church can be used as a venue for other groups in town; host civic events and concerts; and will contribute to the experience of tourists and visitors.’
The performance starts at 7.30 on the 27th and is part of St Mary’s fundraising Gift Weekend.
