The new Bishop of St Davids is to continue the tradition of sending a St Davids Message to members of the Senedd and the Welsh Government.

The message (below) will be taken to Cardiff and presented at the Senedd by young people from the city of St Davids; it will also be delivered by the Bishop herself at the Shrine to St David in the cathedral.

Bishop Joanna is also leading the traditional procession to the Cross in the city centre where she will bless the city and its people.

The day began with a service for local schools in the cathedral.

The 2017 message is as follows:

This year has been a tumultuous year in so many ways.

Bu’r flwyddyn hon yn bur gynhyrfus, a hynny ar sawl cyfrif.

One of the sad things that has been apparent on both sides of the Atlantic is the willingness of politicians to say whatever they like in order to gain votes, and for the media to write headlines, stories and tweets whether or not what they are saying or writing is true.

Un o nodweddion trist bywyd, ar naill ochr yr Iwerydd a’r llall, yw parodrwydd gwleidyddion i ddweud yr hyn a fynnant er mwyn ennill pleidleisiau, gyda’r cyfryngau, ar yr un pryd, yn llunio penawdau a straeon ac yn trydar, heb falio am wirionedd eu deunydd.

On this St David’s day, we are called to remember the virtues of honesty and plain speaking which St David exemplified.

Ar y Dydd Gŵyl Dewi hwn,  mae yna her i bawb ohonom gofio rhinweddau bywyd Dewi Sant, yn eu plith gonestrwydd a siarad di-flewyn-ar-dafod.

Disagreement is natural and welcome in a democracy. As we disagree with one another honestly and openly, we can learn from each other’s divergent points of view.

Mae anghydweld yn gwbl naturiol ac yn rhywbeth i’w groesawu mewn democratiaeth. Wrth i ni anghytuno â’n gilydd yn onest ac yn agored, bydd modd i ni ddysgu, y naill oddiwrth y llall.

It is heartening that the Senedd and the media produced in Wales have been able to practise this honest dialogue. As you continue to do so and remain firm in your commitment to honesty and truthfulness, you will remain an example for the people of Wales and those far beyond our shores to emulate.

Testun balchder yw’r ffaith fod y Senedd a’r cyfryngau yng Nghymru wedi medru cynnal y cyfryw ddeialog gyda gonestrwydd a didwylledd. Wrth i chi barhau ar yr un trywydd cadarn, byddwch yn dal yn esiampl i’w efelychu gan bobl Cymru a thu hwnt.

May the simple honesty of St David remain your inspiration and your guide.

Bydded gonestrwydd syml Dewi Sant yn ysbrydoliaeth ac arweiniad parhaus i chi.
