Part of the Year of Legends 2017
Jemima Nicholas is hailed as the heroine of Fishguard for her role in defeating the Last Invasion of Britain in 1797 – an American-led French revolutionary squadron that came ashore on the cliffs of the Pencaer peninsula near Fishguard.
Her grave and memorial stone are in the churchyard of St Mary’s church in central Fishguard.
The church invites you to a novel exhibition celebrating the women of Fishguard and Goodwick.
The twelve women illustrated are representative of many women in this amazing area. Their themes of enterprise, art, sport, music and public service, show just a few of thousands of wonderful women.
It is hoped that their themes of enterprise, art, sport, music and public service will inspire many young women. The exhibition shows a small cross-section of the women that are transforming Welsh communities.
It hopes to provide role models as well as acting as a source of inspiration for anybody living in a small community of what individuals can achieve.
Visitors are invited to add their own suggestions of local women who show inspiring service or leadership, either in the full glare of public life or in the quiet unseen places of our complex society.
